Being the trade hub for
the whole of South India with the ports of Goa, Cochin, Bhatkal
and other important ports under its control, Vijayanagara
was visited by a lot of foreign traders and delegates. The
Empire had many Chroniclers and Ambassadors from all parts
of the world, including as far as the Europe throughout its
reign. A great deal of credit should be given to these Chroniclers,
who, through their recordings of their times, help us in understanding
the life, and glory of Vijayanagara Empire and its relations
with other kingdoms in India and around the world during that
period.
The foreign visitors to
the Vijayanagara Empire or its neighbouring states are recorded
in the chart below along with the approximate year(s) during
which they made their recordings. We also record the name
of the ruler in Vijayanagara during that period.
