The official currency in India is Indian Rupee. While in India, you are expected to transact only in this currency. There are several banks in Hampi. These banks also provide cash withdrawals on credit cards. MasterCard and Visa are accepted while American Express is not. Banks charge the withdrawer a small amount for this transaction.

Tourists are advised to bring their money in the form of either traveller cheques or demand drafts to be exchanged for cash in the banks available in Hampi.
